Hello Friends! This is a pretty photo of the water down by the south shore. I saw the same colors in my skyline but I didnβt have my camera handy! This is about 30 miles from the farm. My friend took this photo Wednesday morning.
This is Thursday morning, same time, early. Just a small amount of snow but still pretty. By tomorrow afternoon it will be all gone again!
Are you a winter, spring, summer or fall person? I prefer the fall myself, spring on the farm is so muddy the little ones boots will fall off their feet trying to walk thru the mud! Summer is very muggy and winters are raw and cold so Iβm sticking with fall!
Hello Friends! It was a very blustery day on Friday, you can see Juliusβs mane standing straight up! We also had our first snow of the season. It didnβt stay long before it all melted, it was all gone by Saturday.
Julius saw me walking back to the house with hay under my arm for Mr Roosevelt and whenever one of the horses spot hay they get all excited. This time of year itβs a treat! The bunny loves all hay, not only does he like to eat it, the hay keeps him warm on cold winter days.
Mr Roosevelt loves to sit on the chair, Iβm not sure why, he just does.
I did end up giving Julius a handful of hay when I walked by. That doesnβt seem like a lot but they do get a bale of hay in the morning and itβs only 10am. When itβs very cold and snow in the field they get hay mid day. They end the night in the stall with bedtime hay. Itβs no surprise why they enjoy hay so much!
My moms plans for having Thanksgiving at the farm went south this year-her two young grandchildren both have covid and that means her daughter is quarantining.
The good news about getting ready for company is that she painted ceilings, cleaned the house, took out old rugs and bought new window cushions where the roof was fixed! There is no more water flowing in the dining room!! I have a feeling she will now get out her Christmas decorations to make the house all pretty for Christmas!
Her son is at his girlfriends house this year with Arlo the kitten! Last year was my Moms turn having them here so itβs only fair! Iβm pretty sure Mom and her partner will be going to his daughters for dinner today! I hope they bring us home some leftovers!
Mom told me she is thankful for all of us and all of you! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
Hello Friends. Being the Keeper of the Farm isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be! I’m still dealing with the well that failed and all the dirt, literally buckets full of dirt that ruined two hot water tanks, propane furnace, and the water valve shut off. It’s just crazy what dirt can do blasting thru your pipes! I think now we have made headway. Just today the water valve was fixed, we have hot water and everyone should be happy. Unless you happen to be one of those people who is happily miserable! I know a few!
Buddy the horse is like a big cat, whenever I have the water filling up the water trough, he races over to stick his face in it! It must feel good, even on a cold rainy day.
My granddaughter took this photo outside her home of the two deer. I happen to love deer so I thought I would share this awesome photo with you all too!
Have a great week! I’m now getting ready for Thanksgiving. One of my most favorite holidays!
I am definitely a country girl that loves to garden, quilt, preserve, hunt, and read. I love my family more than anything in the world. I live with my husband of fifty years. We have a son, daughter, granddaughter and grandson. We live on a 500+ acre farm in Virginia with about 75 cows & bulls, thirty chickens, and three dogs.
This site is about my life as a farmgirl, wife, mother and grandmother. We have a beautiful granddaughter and the cutest grandson. We own two farms in Craig County Virginia, leasing one and raising beef cattle on the other.
